New Mexico New Homes

New Mexico is located in the southwestern part of the United States along the U.S./Mexico border. Its name “New Mexico” is an indicator of the state’s rich, diverse cultural influence from both Native American and Hispanic culture. The state has had a large influence from the many Native Americans who have inhabited the region since before the New World. Today, the state boasts one of the most diverse and exciting cultures of any state in the U.S. It has a heavy influence from the largest population of both Native American and Hispanic descends in the country. The total population of the state still remains fairly low for a state of its size. As the 5th largest state in the county, it has one of the most sparely inhabited areas of any state. Population density for the state is estimated at 16 people per square mile. With a spread out population, the state has managed to maintain a lot of its rural, New Mexican culture.

The state borders Texas to the east, Colorado to the north, Arizona to the west, and Mexico to the south. The state is also one of the four states to touch at the “Four Corners” border; which includes Nevada to the northwest as one of its bordering states. The state’s location in the heart of the southwest provides it with a very beautiful and exciting geography. Vast deserts and plateaus cover a majority of the state, although the northern part of the state has the Sangre de Cristo Mountains with snowy white capped mountain peaks. The majority of the state lives in the plateaus area of the central part of the state. Read more »

The central part of the state is home to many of the major cities. Albuquerque is the largest city and the center for life in the state. With a population of 521,999, it easily has the largest population of any city. The second largest city, Las Cruces, has only 91,865. Albuquerque is the location of many of the state’s major businesses and resources. Nearly half of the state resides in or around the surrounding area. Major employment opportunities from the University of New Mexico, Kirtland Air Force Base, and Intel help keep a healthy economy for the state. The city has experienced rapid growth in recent years as more and more opportunities are made available. In 2007, it was the 6th fastest growing city in America. The cities rich culture has attracted people from all over the country. Builders have focused on the Greater Albuquerque area as a place for experimenting with new and innovative housing ideas. A lot of success has come from the production of several adobe style homes, which resemble the traditional homes of New Mexican Natives. The New Mexican housing market is one of the only places to offer such unique and interesting homes to buyers.

Sales Trends
Housing sales for New Mexico are not at the volumes that they were in years past. In this economy, builders have focused on niche markets that offer higher revenues from lower volumes. The Albuquerque market produced only 2,555 new home sales in 2008. Builders in the market have managed to stay successful by offering unique housing lots to consumers. In the future, the Albuquerque market should see a large increase in housing sales as more jobs are created. Large high-tech companies like Hewlett Packard and many others have plans to move into the area in the future. These companies will offer thousands of new jobs to residents and help to increase sales dramatically.  « Close »
